The latest crime figures from the Home Office reveal that Birmingham had a particularly high rate of homicides, attempted murders and conspiracies to murder in the 12 months up to October 2016.
Over the course of the year the city saw 13 homicides and 50 attempted murders – although there were no cases of conspiracy to murder.
These 63 offences translate to a rate of 5.7 murderous crimes for every 100,000 people living in Birmingham – one of the highest rates out of anywhere in England and Wales.
